Description

(R)-2-Amino-3-hydroxy-3-methylbutanoicacid is a molecule that has significant homology to the amino acid glutamate. It is a constant modification of aspartate, and is found in many genera of bacteria, including Actinomyces, Bacillus, Clostridium, Corynebacterium, Lactobacillus, Propionibacterium, Streptococcus. (R)-2-Amino-3-hydroxy-3-methylbutanoicacid has been shown to have an activation energy of about 10 kJ/mol at pH 7.0. The biochemical function of this molecule is not known with certainty; it may be involved in the synthesis of proteins or peptides and may play a role in signal transduction pathways.
