Description

DL-2-Aminoheptanoicacid is a protein synthesis inhibitor that is used to study the effects of amino acids on nerve cells. It was first identified from the culture supernatant of a bacterial strain, which was found to inhibit the growth of other bacteria. DL-2-Aminoheptanoicacid has been shown to have an effect on polymorphic proteins and can be used as a metal chelator. This agent has also been shown to have an effect on acidic cellular components in cell cultures and can be used for acid analysis. DL-2-Aminoheptanoicacid may be useful as an assay for human chorionic gonadotropin (hCG), which is produced by the placenta during pregnancy. The assay can be performed using a liquid chromatography method, which separates compounds based on their solubility in different solvents.
