Allyl propyltrisulfide is a member of the genus allylprop-2-enyltrisulfide. It is used for the treatment of inflammatory bowel diseases, such as ulcerative colitis and Crohn's disease. Allyl propyltrisulfide can be dissolved in water or oil and can be used in a variety of sample preparations, including in water or on surfaces. The molecule has been shown to have anti-inflammatory effects on bowel disease by reducing inflammation. Allyl propyltrisulfide may also inhibit the replication of coronaviruses by preventing virus binding to host cells. This molecule also has an antibacterial effect against bacteria such as E. coli, S. aureus, H. pylori, and C. perfringens when combined with other agents such as furyl or mercaptals that have antibacterial properties.
