2-Amino-5-bromo-3-ethoxypyrazine is an analog of zolpidem, a drug used to treat insomnia. It has been shown to have similar pharmacological activity, but with a much shorter half-life and reduced potential for abuse. This compound is synthesized by the reaction of ethoxycarbonyl chlorides with 2-aminoethylphosphonic acid. The carboxylic acid group is also found in other drugs such as ketorolac and mefenamic acid.
2-Amino-5-bromo-3-ethoxypyrazine has been shown to bind to benzodiazepine receptors in the brain and possess hypnotic effects. It does not show any binding to the GABA receptor, which distinguishes it from other hypnotic agents such as zolpidem or triazolam.
