7-AMCA is a peptide that binds to the receptor site of trimethylamine and hydrochloric acid in the stomach. It also binds to basic proteins in the gastrointestinal tract, which are important for maintaining the mucosal barrier. 7-AMCA has been shown to inhibit C. glabrata growth by binding to its receptor site on the cell membrane, although it does not bind to other fungi such as Candida albicans or Saccharomyces cerevisiae. 7-AMCA has also been shown to be effective against a number of bacterial strains, including methicillin resistant Staphylococcus aureus (MRSA) and Enterobacter cloacae, but not against Mycobacterium tuberculosis or Mycobacterium avium complex.
