3-Amino-2-hydroxy methyl benzoic acid methyl ester is a compound that inhibits bacterial growth. It binds to the ATP binding site of the enzyme's active site, preventing it from catalyzing the conversion of ATP to ADP, and thereby inhibiting bacterial growth. 3-Amino-2-hydroxy methyl benzoic acid methyl ester has been shown to inhibit both staphylococcus and aureus with an IC50 of 0.25 μg/mL, while erythromycin had an IC50 of 1 μg/mL. This inhibition was found to be concentration dependent as well as time dependent, suggesting that 3-amino-2-hydroxy methyl benzoic acid methyl ester may be used as an antibiotic against bacteria.
