Description

(S)-2-Amino-3-(methylamino)propanoic acid hydrochloride is an amino acid that is synthetically prepared. It is used in the synthesis of pharmaceuticals and has been shown to be a precursor for the production of (S)-3-amino-1,4-dihydropyridine. This amino acid has been found to be an effective treatment for neurodegenerative disease, such as Huntington's disease and Parkinson's disease. The pharmacopeia describes this amino acid as a racemic mixture of two enantiomers, which are mirror images of each other. The enantiomer with the highest concentration is (S)-2-amino-3-(methylamino)propanoic acid hydrochloride.
