Description :N-Acetyl dapsone is a drug used to treat metabolic disorders. It is a structural analog of dapsone that has the same mechanism of action and therapeutic use, but with fewer side effects. N-Acetyl dapsone is converted by oxidation in the liver to dapsone, which inhibits the activity of a number of enzymes, including dehydrogenases and monoamine oxidases. The activity index for N-acetyl dapsone is 1.5 times that for dapsone. The binding constants for N-acetyl dapsone are higher than those for dapsone and have been shown to be more selective for human serum albumin than for rat liver microsomes. In addition, N-acetyl dapsone does not bind to lysine residues on proteins as well as does its parent compound, which may explain its lower incidence of side effects such as agranulocytosis and methemoglobinemia in humans compared
