Ala-Trp-OH is a reactive compound that has been shown to inhibit the growth of bacteria in an acetate extract. It is not active against bacteria in a blood serum or peptide binding assay. The fluorescence properties of Ala-Trp-OH suggest that this compound may bind to the surface of bacterial cells, inhibiting their growth. This compound may also have a role in controlling blood pressure by reducing the production of angiotensin II and norepinephrine. Ala-Trp-OH also has a neutral pH and can be used as a phase transfer catalyst for organic syntheses.
