Description

(S)-2-Amino-4-(2-amino-3-hydroxyphenyl)-4-oxobutanoic acid is a metabolite of the amino acid phenylalanine. It is a product of the irreversible transamination of xanthurenic acid and picolinic acid, which are metabolites of tryptophan. (S)-2-Amino-4-(2-amino-3-hydroxyphenyl)-4-oxobutanoic acid has shown to have antiinflammatory properties in human cells that are activated by HIV infection. This metabolite has also been shown to have pharmacokinetic properties that may be useful for therapeutic applications.
