1-Allyl-3-methylimidazolium Bis(trifluoromethanesulfonyl)imide (1AMT) is a dispersive inorganic compound that has been used as an analytical reagent. It is soluble in tetrahydrofuran and acetonitrile, but insoluble in water. 1AMT can be used to measure the viscosity of aqueous solutions. 1AMT is also used to study human serum and adsorbing properties on surfaces, which may be due to its ability to form hydrogen bonds with water molecules. 1AMT is a viologen that undergoes dehydrogenation when heated at 60°C for 10 minutes. The mechanism of this reaction is not clear, although it has been suggested that it involves an electron transfer from the methyl group and a proton from the sulfur atom.
