Description

2-Amino-1,6-dimethylfuro[3,2-e]imidazo[4,5-b]pyridine (ADF) is a natural product that has been found to be active in the treatment of fibroids and infectious diseases. ADF binds to cell factor and inhibits DNA polymerase activity. ADF has also been shown to have cytotoxic effects on solid tumours in a dose dependent manner. ADF has high resistance against radiation therapy, which may be due to its ability to form disulfide bonds with proteins. This property also makes it an excellent model system for studying the mechanisms of radiation resistance. Structural analysis of ADF shows that it contains a furan ring fused with an imidazole ring at the 2-position, rendering it extremely difficult for cells to metabolize this compound. The molecular weight of ADF is 288 Da and its chemical formula is C14H11N3O2S
