6-Aminyl-2-pyrone (6AP) is a chemical pesticide that has inhibitory properties on root formation. It was shown to have an inhibitory effect on wild-type strains of fungi. 6AP inhibits the growth of fungi by causing the accumulation of phenolic compounds in the cells and inhibiting tyrosinase activity, which is important for cell growth. Trichoderma asperellum mutants with a reduced acetate extraction ability were more sensitive to 6AP than wild-type strains. The biochemical composition of 6AP is unknown, although it may be similar to 2,4-dichlorophenoxyacetic acid (2,4D).
6AP has been shown to inhibit root formation in wild type strains of fungi at sublethal doses. This inhibition is due to a lack of nutrients in the nutrient solution and not due to any toxic effects from the chemical pesticide.
