4-Amino-5-cyano-2-methylpyrimidine is a chemical compound that can be used as an additive in vitamin B1. It has been shown to have antibacterial activity against Acinetobacter baumannii and Staphylococcus aureus, although it is not active against methicillin-resistant Staphylococcus aureus. This compound also has the ability to form acylhydrazones with amines, which may be useful for the synthesis of new drugs. 4-Amino-5-cyano-2-methylpyrimidine has acidic properties and flammable hazards, so should be handled with care. However, this compound can also act as a hydrogen bond donor or acceptor due to its interaction with other molecules.
