2-Amino-5-pyrimidinecarbonitrile is an organic chemical compound that belongs to the class of amines. It is a structural analogue of 2,4-diaminotoluene, but with a nitrile group in place of the amino group. This compound has shown to be active against protozoan parasites and also inhibits alkaline phosphatase activity in bacteria. It also binds to thiourea and amines, which may be due to its resemblance to diethyl ether, which is known for its ability to bind to these functional groups. 2-Amino-5-pyrimidinecarbonitrile can be used as a reagent in chemical analyses because it uses metal halides as catalysts.
