Description

5β-Androsterone is an endogenous steroid hormone that is present in human urine. It is a metabolite of testosterone and has been shown to be a reliable indicator of the presence of testosterone. 5β-Androsterone can be detected in the urine of healthy males, females, and children (including infants). The chemical nature of 5β-Androsterone is hydroxyl group. It can be isolated from urine by means of chromatographic methods, such as thin layer chromatography or high performance liquid chromatography. Calibration models are used to quantify the amount of 5β-androsterone in urine samples. There are several analytical methods for measuring 5β-androsterone levels available for validation purposes, including gas chromatography/mass spectrometry, liquid chromatography/mass spectrometry, and enzyme immunoassay.
