Description

R-(-)-Arundic acid is a biologically active fatty acid that has been shown to have a number of pharmacological effects. It binds to calcium, which leads to the inhibition of hydroxyl group reactions. R-(-)-Arundic acid also inhibits the binding of drugs with metal hydroxides, and can act as a reactive intermediate in some chemical reactions. It has been shown to be an effective treatment for ischemic brain damage and neuronal death, as well as being able to induce long-term potentiation in rats. R-(-)-Arundic acid also has neurotrophic effects on neurons by affecting the expression of brain functions such as nuclear factor kappa-light-chain-enhancer (NFκB) and neurotrophic factors.
