Aluminon is a reactive oxygen species (ROS) scavenger that protects against oxidative injury. It has been shown to prevent cell injury and death in an animal model system exposed to water vapor with the use of aurintricarboxylic acid, which is a ROS scavenger. Aluminon also has inhibitory properties against receptor activity, cellular physiology and radiation damage. This drug may have potential as a therapeutic agent in preventing neuronal death and DNA template damage caused by ROSs.
