It has been shown to have antimicrobial properties, which are due to its ability to inhibit bacterial growth. 2-Acetylbenzofuran has been used in the treatment of metabolic disorders and diabetes, as it acts by regulating the synthesis of insulin. This compound also inhibits the production of reactive oxygen species (ROS) and decreases cellular oxidative stress. 2-Acetylbenzofuran has also been shown to increase glucose uptake in cells through insulin-stimulated phosphorylation of AKT.
