It also binds to the endocannabinoid receptor CB1 and competes with anandamide, which is a natural ligand of this receptor. 3-Acetylphenylboronic acid may be used as a replacement for fatty acids in carbon nanotubes because it has the same basic structure but does not react with oxygen or other chemicals. 3-Acetylphenylboronic acid also reacts with metal ions such as copper and zinc, which may be due to its electron withdrawing ability.
