Acetoacetanilide is an organic compound that has been used as a solvent in wastewater treatment. It is also known to have various pharmacological effects, including the suppression of autoimmune diseases, such as rheumatoid arthritis and systemic lupus erythematosus. Acetoacetanilide is a coumarin derivative with a hydroxyl group at the 2-position. It is thermodynamically stable and shows no evidence of toxicity in animal studies. Acetoacetanilide reacts quickly with sodium metal to form an anhydrous solution, which can be heated without decomposition. This reaction can be used to study hydrogen bonding between molecules. Acetoacetanilide has been shown to form stable complexes with nitrogen atoms, such as ammonia and amines, and fatty acids, such as picolinic acid and intramolecular hydrogen bonds with fatty acids.
