Description

Anethole trithione is a hepatoprotective agent that has been shown to protect the liver from toxic substances by enhancing detoxification enzymes. It also has been shown to increase the cytosolic calcium levels and inhibit acetaminophen-induced hepatotoxicity in vivo. Anethole trithione increases the activity of glutamate pyruvate transaminase, which is an enzyme involved in metabolizing amino acids. Anethole trithione also has pharmacokinetic properties that are enhanced when it is taken with ethanol, and its bioavailability can be determined using LC-MS/MS methods.
