C.I.Azoic Coupling Component 21 is a synthetic organic compound that is used as an advanced reagent for the chromatographic, laser, and mass spectrometric analysis of pigments in natural products. It has been shown to be effective for the identification of naphthol derivatives by both ionization mass spectrometry and laser desorption ionization with time-of-flight mass spectrometry. This reagent is also used as a yellowish dye in textile printing and dyeing processes, where it can be obtained from the reaction between formaldehyde and phenylenediamine. C.I.Azoic Coupling Component 21 is soluble in water, which makes it suitable for use in aqueous solutions or extractions.
