Description :
4-Amino-2-methylpyrimidine is a nutritional supplement that is used to treat vitamin B1 deficiency. It is an amination product of methyl transferase and can be obtained by the reaction of methyl ester with formamide in acid. 4-Amino-2-methylpyrimidine is also used as a chromatographic solvent for the separation of compounds. The product has been shown to have high yields, being produced in more than 90% yield by aerogenes, which are able to use acetonitrile as a growth substrate. This compound has been shown to inhibit the growth of enterobacter, an organism that causes urinary tract infections.
