Description

(1R,2R)-(-)-2-Amino-1-(4-nitrophenyl)-1,3-propanediol is a synthetic mixture that is used as a reagent in analytical chemistry. It can be used to measure the acidity of an unknown solution by adding it to the unknown and observing the color change. The reagent has been shown to interact with chloramphenicol and produce a yellow color in the presence of this compound. (1R,2R)-(-)-2-Amino-1-(4-nitrophenyl)-1,3-propanediol can also be used as an indicator for amines by producing an orange color when mixed with an amine. This compound may also react with 2,4,6-trinitrobenzenesulfonic acid to produce a blue color.
