The synthesis of the Z-L-alanine 4-nitrophenyl ester is an incubated and synthetic process. It is a stable complex with methyl esters, formed by interaction with esterases. The stoichiometry of this reaction is 1:1. The Z-L-alanine 4-nitrophenyl ester hydrolyzes to L-alanine and 4 nitrophenol. This product has been shown to be stable in horse, leucocyte, and pancreatic homogenates.
