Description

Acetyl-DL-phenylglycine is a synthetic amino acid that has been used as a starting material for the preparation of various drugs. Various acetylated derivatives have been prepared from this amino acid, including the drug metabolites acetaminophen, acetylsalicylic acid, and acetylcysteine. Acetyl-DL-phenylglycine is an effective antibiotic drug that inhibits bacterial growth by competitive inhibition of the enzyme lipase in bacteria. This drug also has some activity against parasites and yeast.
