• Description: 2-Amino-6-methylbenzoic acid is a chemical compound that inhibits the shikimate pathway, an important metabolic pathway in plants. This chemical is an analog of 6-aminocaproic acid, a metabolite of the amino acid lysine. 2-Amino-6-methylbenzoic acid was found to inhibit the growth of plant cells and reduce protein synthesis. The compound may also regulate plant physiology by affecting the activity of growth regulators such as auxin and gibberellins. It has been shown to stimulate the release of calcium ions from ryanodine receptors in plant cells, which may be responsible for its cytotoxic effects.; 2-Amino-6-methylbenzoic acid has also been used as a histochemical staining agent for proteins that are involved in protein synthesis, such as cytochromes and ribosomes.
