4-Amino-3-bromopyridine is an isomer of pyridine, which has been synthesized to serve as a substrate for nucleoside phosphorylase, the enzyme that catalyzes the conversion of inorganic phosphate and nucleoside diphosphate into ribonucleoside diphosphate. 4-Amino-3-bromopyridine has been shown to inhibit the activity of this enzyme with an IC50 value of 0.44 mM and competitively inhibits the binding of ATP with a Ki value of 1.0 mM. The use of 4-amino-3-bromopyridine as a substrate for nucleoside phosphorylase may be used as a novel strategy to treat diseases involving genetic defects in the DNA or RNA synthesis pathways.
