4-Aminopiperidin-1-carboxylic acid ethyl ester is a structural modification of the amide antibiotic piperacillin. This compound binds to 5-HT2A receptors and has been shown to have antibacterial activity against Gram-positive bacteria, such as Enterococcus faecalis. 4-Aminopiperidin-1-carboxylic acid ethyl ester has also been shown to have antimalarial activity in mice. The pharmacophore for 4-aminopiperidin-1 carboxylic acid ethyl ester is a linker with a mononuclear carboxylate group. Optimization studies have led to the synthesis of analogs with altered physicochemical properties, which may increase the compound’s stability and bioavailability.
