2-Amino-4-isopropyl-thiazole-5-carboxylic acid ethyl ester is a ligand that binds to the active site of herbicidal enzymes. It was first synthesized in the 1970s and its structure was determined in 2000 by X-ray crystallography. 2-Amino-4-isopropyl-thiazole-5-carboxylic acid ethyl ester has shown to be an intermediate in the synthesis of herbicides, such as amitrole, which are used for the control of broadleaf weeds. 2AITC is also an intermediate in the synthesis of other compounds, such as 4-(2,2,2,-trifluoroethoxy)benzeneboronic acid and N'-[(S)-1-(3,3,3,-trifluoropropanoyl)piperidin]-N'-methylformamidine.
