Description

1-Amino-1-cycloheptane carboxylic acid is a tetrapeptide and tripeptide that has been shown to inhibit histone deacetylase. This inhibition prevents the removal of acetyl groups from lysine residues in the N-terminal tails of histones, which alters chromatin structure and gene expression. 1-Amino-1-cycloheptane carboxylic acid has been shown to be effective against chronic myeloid leukemia (CML) cells in vitro and in vivo. The CML cells are characterized by a chromosome translocation that creates an oncogenic fusion protein. This fusion protein is the target of 1-amino-1-cycloheptane carboxylic acid, which inhibits its function by blocking the action of two enzymes involved in the synthesis of this protein.
