N-(3-Aminopropyl)-imidazole is a chemical compound that has been shown to have minimal toxicity and significant cytotoxicity. It has been shown to cause tumor cells to die by generating reactive oxygen species (ROS) at the surface of the cancer cells. The synthesis of this compound can be done by reacting 3-aminopropylimidazole with copper chloride in trifluoroacetic acid. This reaction produces a blue precipitate that can be purified using electrochemical impedance spectroscopy and x-ray crystal structures. N-(3-Aminopropyl)-imidazole has been found to form strong hydrogen bonds and coordinate geometries with acidic compounds, such as fluoroacetic acid, which is why it is effective against tumor cells.
