4'-Aminobenzo-15-crown 5-Ether (4AC5E) is a molecule that has been shown to have antimicrobial activities against various bacteria, yeast, and fungi. The activity of 4AC5E is attributed to the presence of aldehyde groups on its molecular backbone. 4AC5E binds to potassium ions and forms monolayers that are able to bind with carbon sources such as glucose. This binding inhibits the growth of microorganisms by preventing the uptake of glucose, which is necessary for their survival and replication.
