Description

Alkannin is a natural compound that is found in plants. It has been shown to bind to DNA and inhibit the activity of cellular enzymes such as histone deacetylases, protein kinases, and phosphatases. Alkannin may also have anti-inflammatory activities that are mediated by inhibition of prostaglandin synthesis. Alkannin has been shown to possess anti-inflammatory properties in bowel disease models by inhibiting the production of inflammatory mediators such as TNF-α and IL-1β. This compound binds to the chitosan quaternary ammonium (QA) polymerase chain reaction (PCR) primer, which can be used for the detection of alkannin in biological samples.
