Description

5-alpha-Androstan-17-one is a synthetic androgen with growth promoting activity. It has been shown to have potential as an anti-cancer agent, which is due to its ability to inhibit the production of estrogen by aromatase. 5-alpha-Androstan-17-one is also used as an excipient in pharmaceutical formulations. This drug can be analyzed using chromatography or picolinic acid. The analytical methods for 5-alpha-androstan 17 one are GC/MS and HPLC. The symptoms of this drug include fatigue, weight loss, decreased libido, increased frequency of erections, and decreased volume of ejaculate. This drug may be conjugated with glucuronic acid or cysteine sulfinic acid to form a water soluble conjugate that inhibits binding to serum albumin and thus increases the half life of the parent compound in vivo.
