(-)-a-Conidendrin is a chemical compound that is found in the natural product conidia. It has been shown to have anticancer properties and can be used as a carbon source for yeast fermentation. (-)-a-Conidendrin is synthesized by the Friedel-Crafts reaction of secoisolariciresinol with an alkylating agent. The molecule contains a carbonyl group, a hydroxy group, and two carbon atoms that are linked together in a geometric arrangement called an isomer. It also has two different isomers, one of which has a methyl group on the other carbon atom and the other of which does not. These two forms are called geometric isomers because they differ only in their geometry around the double bond. The nmr spectra show three signals corresponding to hydrogen atoms in different environments: those on carbons 1 and 2, those on carbons 3 and 4, and those on carbons 5 and 6.
