- 2-Nitro-3-aminophenol
- Phenol, 3-amino-2-nitro-
3-Amino-2-nitrophenol is a chemical compound that belongs to the group of nitro compounds. It has been shown to be an adrenergic receptor agonist and inhibitor of tyrosinase, an enzyme that catalyzes the conversion of tyrosine into melanin. 3-Amino-2-nitrophenol also inhibits the synthesis of catecholamines, such as dopamine, norepinephrine and epinephrine, by inhibiting the enzyme dopamine β-hydroxylase. This compound is used in the synthesis of 4-amino-3-nitrophenol and benzimidazole compounds.
3-Amino-2-nitrophenol can be synthesized from nitric acid and hydroxylamine or from inorganic acids with ammonia gas. This chemical reaction is an oxidation process involving a hydroxyl group and a hydroxy group. The resulting product is an isomeric mixture containing
