• Description: Tipelukast is a 2-adrenergic receptor antagonist that has been shown to have effects on the inflammatory response. Tipelukast blocks the binding of leukotrienes and other pro-inflammatory substances to receptors in cells, preventing the action of these substances. Tipelukast also inhibits the production of prostaglandins, which are involved in inflammation. This drug is used to treat asthma, bronchitis, and chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD). It is also used to help prevent asthma attacks triggered by exercise or exposure to allergens. Tipelukast may cause an increase in blood pressure and heart rate.
