4-Amino-2-(trifluoromethyl)phenol is a triplet, which has been shown to yield benzene when reacted with propanamide. It also exhibits anticancer activity and can be used as a photoreductant in magnetic fields. The triplet radical reacts with the electron of an aromatic molecule, forming a radical cation. This reaction mechanism is homogeneous and occurs in the presence of solvent molecules. The crystal structure of 4-amino-2-(trifluoromethyl)phenol was determined by X-ray diffraction analysis and found to have a benzene ring with two chlorine atoms on opposite sides. The photochemistry of the compound has been studied extensively and it is known that photoexcitation produces singlet oxygen, which is responsible for its anticancer effects.
