- 7-(2'-Fluoroethyl)guanine
2-Amino-7-(2-fluoroethyl)-3H-purin-6-one is a fluorescent nucleoside analog that has been used in the quantification of nucleic acids. It is prepared from 2,6-diamino purine with 7-(2-fluoroethyl)uracil, and was first synthesized by K. B. Smith in 1962. The compound is stable under acidic conditions and can be detected using electrospray ionization mass spectrometry. This compound has also been used as a probe for xenobiotic substances, such as polychlorinated biphenyls (PCBs), which are hazardous compounds that are found in the environment. The compound binds to PCBs through hydrogen bonding and forms a fluorescent complex that can be detected using laser desorption spectrometry or laser ionization mass spectrometry.
