2-Amino-4-(Trifluoromethyl)-benzenesulfonic acid is a model compound that has been extensively studied. It is metabolized by various sulfonation and methyltransferase reactions to form glutathione, which is the most abundant low molecular weight thiol in cells. 2-Amino-4-(Trifluoromethyl)-benzenesulfonic acid has been shown to inhibit the growth of cultures of Picea and Chromatographia species. It can be used as an herbicide and a reagent for the detection of cysteine in proteins.
