Description

Fluorodopa is a positron-emitting radiotracer that is used in the diagnosis of Parkinson's disease. It is an analog of L-DOPA and has been shown to be useful in the diagnosis of Parkinson's disease as it can cross the blood-brain barrier, unlike L-DOPA. Fluorodopa binds to dopamine receptors in the brain, which are lost or impaired in patients with Parkinson's disease. This drug has also been shown to be useful for other neurological disorders, such as Alzheimer's disease, where there is loss of dopamine receptors.
