Sodium 2-nitroaniline-4-sulfonate is a white crystalline solid. It is the sodium salt of 2-nitroaniline-4-sulfonic acid. This compound is used as a photofading inhibitor in colorants, with absorption maxima at about 360 nm. The phenolic group in this compound can be converted to an isomeric singlet of nitrobenzenesulfonic acid by dissolving it in methanol and adding hydrogen chloride gas. The maleate and benzenesulfonate salts are also known.
