Description :1-(Hydroxymethyl)pyrrolidine-2,5-dione is an organic compound that has been shown to be a potent inhibitor of the cyclooxygenase (COX) enzyme. It is also a precursor in the synthesis of aspirin. This chemical has been shown to be an effective inhibitor of COX and other enzymes in vitro. 1-(Hydroxymethyl)pyrrolidine-2,5-dione was found to be stable in acidic conditions and can be used as a model for this type of environment. 1-(Hydroxymethyl)pyrrolidine-2,5-dione is not absorbed from the gastrointestinal tract and must be given by injection or intravenously. The pharmacokinetic profile of this drug has been studied using animal models and microscopy techniques on intestinal tissue.
