Hexaethylenglykol-monotetradecylether is a cationic surfactant with a non-ionic hydrophilic head and a long hydrophobic tail. It is used as a surface active agent in detergents, fabric softeners, and other products. Hexaethylenglykol-monotetradecylether was found to be an efficient virus adsorbent and has been shown to inhibit the growth of influenza A virus in vitro. Hexaethylenglykol-monotetradecylether also binds to the adrenergic receptor agonist and prevents the binding of these agents to their receptors. This results in decreased levels of catecholamines by preventing the release of norepinephrine from nerve endings.
