2-[(3-Aminophenyl)sulfonyl]ethanol (DASPE) is a reactive compound that is used for the removal of copper from wastewater. The DASPE molecule binds to the copper ion and forms a complex, which can be removed by desorption. The reaction time for this process depends on the concentration of chloride ions in the wastewater, which affects the stability of the DASPE molecule. The DASPE molecule has been shown to be effective in removing copper from wastewater that contains chloride ions at concentrations below 10g/L. This compound also has an oxidizing property, which can be exploited in derivatisation reactions.
