4-Methylquinolin-6-ol is an ionizing, acidic substance that belongs to the group of isomeric compounds. It has been shown to exist in two isomeric forms: one with a quinoline nucleus and the other with a pyridine nucleus. The former has a molecular weight of 162.14 g/mol and the latter has a molecular weight of 164.15 g/mol. 4-Methylquinolin-6-ol can be synthesized by heating 6-methylquinoline in alkaline conditions or by oxidizing 4-methylpyridine in acidic conditions. The compound has also been observed as a product of the reaction between hydroxyquinoline and oxygen radicals in electron impact spectra.
