Description

2-(2-Hydroxyethyl)-1H-benzo[de]isoquinoline-1,3(2H)-dione is a corrosion inhibitor that protects metal surfaces from corrosion by forming a protective film on the surface. It is usually used in combination with other corrosion inhibitors such as potassium phosphate and sulfamic acid. 2-(2-Hydroxyethyl)-1H-benzo[de]isoquinoline-1,3(2H)-dione has been shown to be an effective corrosion inhibitor for aluminum, magnesium alloys, zinc alloys, and copper. The optimum concentration of this compound is 0.25%. Intramolecular hydrogen bonding between the hydroxyl group and the 2-(2-hydroxyethyl) group in the molecule results in a more stable molecule and a higher rate of conversion to its corresponding metal salt. This functional theory has been confirmed by electrochemical impedance spectroscopy studies on the nucleobases of DNA molecules.
