3-Methylene-2-norbornanone is a molecule that belongs to the group of aurones. It is used as an organic solvent and has been shown to be a potent inducer of enzymes that metabolize carbonyl groups. The enzyme induction properties of 3-methylene-2-norbornanone are due to its ability to bind to the active site on the enzyme, which alters its conformation and increases the affinity for substrate molecules. This chemical can also act as an inhibitor of neuronal cells, by preventing the release of neurotransmitters in response to stimuli. 3-Methylene-2-norbornanone can also react with sodium hydrogen phosphate at high temperature, forming methylenediazomalonate (MDZ).
